I finally watched the Michael Jackson documentary on Netflix today, and honestly, it left me emotional.
There were so many moments that made me stop and think. One statement that really stayed with me was when Diane said: “The jury said Michael Jackson was not guilty. That doesn’t mean he was innocent.”
I have been turning that over in my mind ever since.
What struck me even more was the final scene (I will attach the clip below). It made me think about how we, as humans, view celebrities. Sometimes we admire people so much that we stop seeing them as human. We defend them at all costs. We hear things like, “They can never do wrong in my eyes,” even when evidence or uncomfortable questions exist.
Watching this documentary also helped me understand why some Michael Jackson fans are upset and have called for people to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. At the same time, I didn’t feel like Netflix was trying to twist the story it presented information and perspectives that are already out there.
Whether you agree with the documentary or not, it raises important questions about fame, power, loyalty, truth, and how easily admiration can become blind devotion.
It’s definitely a difficult watch, but I think it’s worth watching.
@TheDejaKing@PopBase Because he never wanted to be black to start with, he didn’t find it beautiful, he also liked white boys. The situation is clear as water.
