@mrs_walker214 Love it down there too. Even in high season it's usually quiet. I particularly like to wander up through the woods to Irton Fell. The huge erratics scattered amid the trees are like something out of a sci-fi series.

@marting77294148 Late afternoon, thought I'd head up to somewhere near Grasmere for sundown. Road jammed from Windermere all through Ambleside coming the other way – road up, burst main, I think – so returned via the Struggle to Troutbeck. Interesting in places.

@harman_geoff @LakesWeather Yes, just cut the corner off with your knife. In winter, you can carry a night candle, which will keep you warm – balance against the extra moisture it creates. It also illuminates you like a massive glow worm, so easy to spot if folk need to find you.

@TelegraphChess After game 8, I would have doubled the fine, taken him to one side, got his agreement for no jeans tomorrow – which he’d already agreed, I believe – and then I would have released a statement to that effect after end of play. It’s more subtle that right/wrong, as you know.
