This is clearly an attempt to normalize charging authors a fee for something that can easily be done for free. The idea of charging an author a deposit charge for uploading a file is outrageous. @AmerChemSociety members - are you *really* ok with this??? https://t.co/cn6LHi2Zd6

Knowledge stays at the institutions where it was created using public funding.

This is in line with recent recommendations by the European Council for open, equitable and sustainable publishing.
HOWEVER:
There is no need to reinvent the wheel!!!
All the necessary infrastructure is already there: Open acess, public, institutional repositoires.
