I'd change Vozinha. Yes he made amazing saves especially against Argentina but they exited halfway through the tournament. Making the team of the tournament with only 4 games out of a possible 8, and conceding 5 goals in those 4 games isn't credible. Simon played 8 games and conceded only 1!

A ONE-SIDED FINAL

The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina turned out to be a one-sided affair, which should not have come as a surprise but for the individual brilliance of Lionel Messi, whose heroics repeatedly carried Argentina far beyond where they might otherwise have finished.

On paper, Argentina had the easier route to the final, yet they struggled through every knockout match. Time and again, they escaped elimination through remarkable resilience and the extraordinary talent of their talisman, Messi.

Before the semifinals, the highest-ranked team they faced was 19th-placed Switzerland, while the other semifinalists had all overcome significantly stronger opposition, including top 10 ranked teams. After cruising through what was arguably the weakest group, Argentina received a wake-up call from tournament debutants Cape Verde, a team many expected them to defeat comfortably. This was the second time in just four matches that Argentina was facing an opponent ranked outside the top 60!

As the tournament progressed, Argentina's resilience (against weaker opponents) continued to shine, largely complemented and often rescued by Messi's individual brilliance. He finished the tournament with eight goals, four assists, and five Man of the Match awards, producing one of the greatest individual World Cup campaigns in history.

Yes, he is really who people say he is!!! The only time he failed to show up, the true colours of the almost stale Argentine side became painfully manifest. Zero shots in 90 minutes, zero on target in 120 minutes. No other world cup finalist has had such dismal stats.

Spain's journey was the complete opposite. While their individual stars rarely dominated the headlines, their collective football was a joy to behold. They navigated the toughest possible route to the title, defeating Modrić's Croatia, Ronaldo's Portugal, De Bruyne's Belgium, Mbappé's France, and finally Messi's Argentina.

They played all the top 5 teams except England who were lucky to escape the Spanish onslaught. On their way to the title, they dispatched three of the four semifinalists from the last World Cup, the two most recent world champions, and three former World Cup-winning nations.

Their group was arguably the tournament's toughest, and their side of the knockout bracket was clearly the more demanding. Yet Spain made that difficult path look easy. Their dismantling of France, widely considered one of the tournament favourites, was particularly impressive.

Spain had started the tournament with a false start which perhaps worked in their favour. Their initial draw against Cape Verde had many dismissing them as serious contenders. Expectations were lowered and they developed without the burden of being considered favourites, peaking remarkably in the semifinal against France. They hardly broke a sweat in that commanding victory over France, awakening many to the real possibility of a second Spanish world title.

Although the scoreline in the final did not fully reflect the balance of play, Spain were unquestionably the dominant side. They controlled the game, dictated the tempo, and demonstrated why they had been the best team throughout the tournament. They emerged as thoroughly deserving champions, earning a second World Cup crown through consistently outstanding team performances rather than dependence on individual brilliance. Theirs was a well-blended team rather than a collection of individual stars.
