Last week in Bucharest, I participated in a workshop on the Phanariot past of Southeast Europe, organized by the New Europe College, by presenting a paper on executive powers in the Principality of Samos. I want to thank the College administrators and staff for organizing the program. I am eagerly awaiting the publication of the contributions as an edited book.

Law Professor Nor Asiah Mohamad from the International Islamic University Malaysia gave a lecture at our faculty this week titled "The Malaysian Legal System: Structure, Sources, and Contemporary Issues." Prof Mohamad compared the legal systems of Türkiye and Malaysia, including their civil law and common law backgrounds. I thank her, as well as the academics and graduate students who contributed to the program during the Q&A session.

A long afternoon discussion on the Medieval history of endowments @anamed_ku. Post-doctoral researchers from Turkiye and Europe presented various aspects of Muslim, Greek, Serbian, and Armenian endowments from the ninth to the fifteenth centuries. Attended the workshop from start to finish and called it a great day for the comparative law of endowments. So excited to revisit the exceptional building from my junior fellowship years.

I attended a two-day event at a historical building in Istanbul, a conference on the legal personality and property issues of community endowments in Turkiye. Full of discussions among legal scholars, attorneys, and endowment board members. A topic at the crossroads of the comparative law of endowments, human rights law, international law, administrative law, and constitutional law. A theme that deserves further legal studies. Learned a lot. Thanks to @arendadir for the invitation, organization, coordination, and moderation.

Remembering the last days of November, a productive week for the comparative law of endowments. Rabat first:

Law books on endowments by Moroccan legal scholars in a lovely bookstore, Third Millennium Bookstore.
A conference on endowments bringing scholars and executives together in a mesmerizing campus, Dar al-Hadith al-Hasaniyya of the University of al-Qarawiyyin.
A surprise visit to a regal government building, the Moroccan Ministry of Endowments.
