@TheMoneyMill Yeah! It could be hard to pinpoint the exact reason now since we are in the middle of the boom. I’m sure it’ll be easier to call out once the dust has settled lmao
@TheMoneyMill Shoot, thanks for clarifying. My fault!
I don’t grade cards from other languages but I did hear the same comment regarding quality of cards from a friend.
I’d say that statement is mildly speculative.
Because, DBZ is massively huge. So many new collectors arrive from so many different channels, not just sports or other TCGs.
When looking to spend their cash, they do research and realize that PSA is a far more recognizable brand. It’s on TV shows, the internet, and IRL.
Yes, more liquid. But I wouldn’t say it lacks quality when it’s the most recognized grading company in the world.
I agree, Beckett has a harder grading scale - which might feel fair to some in comparison to PSA. But gatekeeping potential black labels to inflate their brand only cripples a GEM MINT 10 and 99% of the cards in their pop.
I’ll end with this. I don’t think it matters. It’s people’s money, it’s cool to have options. Saying one is better than the other doesn’t make the hobby and “investing” any more fun.
Growing up, this was always the narrative.
I’ll start by saying I’m personally a CR7 over Messi
However, every time Messi’s FCB played vs a team from the EPL, his side won. Won 2 UCLs vs the best Man Utd teams in their history and scored in both games.
Sure we can all say that Messi didn’t leave his “comfort zone” and leave FCB and try prove himself in different leagues, however…
Can’t blame Messi for shining amongst players that were developed in the same childhood club, around players be grew up playing with, or great players that reached their prime in FCB.
Messi representing Argentina at the international level was him leaving his comfort zone. Argentina fans were not on side and blamed him for losses. He almost quit the national team. Also, as a teenager he was never on Argentina’s radar. He almost chose Spain.
Meanwhile, CR7 always accepted new chapters and played in 3/5 top European leagues. Broke records across all leagues is and is Mr. Champions League. Also loved and seen as a national hero in Portugal. Won over the Asian market and breaks the internet!
For me, at the end of the day CR7 as an “investment” in the hobby used to be massively undervalued. Now he’s just undervalued a bit with so much room to grow and park some money on.
I’m just super happy to live through the peak of these 2 players, who would give us massive performances, and set the stage for this new generation. I don’t compare them, just respect them. I love the sport and this era will forever be peak.
