'Monkey Gone to Heaven' by Jason Ellis is extended until Wed 11 Dec. Ellis memorialises extinct animals by placeing them, with his expert technique, in slate frames, small windows into both the past and the environmental challenges we face today.
Slate has been used for generations to commemorate the dead. Slate headstones can still be found in old cemeteries, their hand-carved inscriptions still crisp, still remembering.
'Monkey Gone To Heaven' by sculptor Jason Ellis depicts a selection of animals that are now extinct.
Frank Auerbach, the great post war painter, has died.
A Berliner, he arrived in the UK as an 8yr old on the Kindertransport, his parents murdered in Auschwitz.
His numerous portraits of a handful of sitters recreate the sense of family lost to him, about whom he never spoke.
Busy day for sculptor Jason Ellis on the final day of @cagaireland’s Dublin Gallery Weekend with a studio visit/demo & conversation with Dr Caroline Campbell, Director of @NGIreland.
