It's really quite simple. A flaw in our evolutionary psychology means we're highly suggestible when exposed to authority figures. Narrative control is therefore key.

Years of reading the Daily Mail leaves you thinking like a billionaire.

Years of watching BBC news leaves you thinking like the British establishment.

Years of reading the modern Guardian leaves you thinking like the security services.

In other words, all of it leaves you intellectually flabby and passive. It strips you of independence of mind and the ability to think critically.

It takes a lot of mental work – the equivalent of going daily to the gym – to gain some control back.

The billionaires and establishment count on most of us not having the time or energy to do the work.

It's proved a winning formula for them so far.

That’s what I thought all these years … I thought they surely know the forces that drive the evolution of everything, they will correct. Until I relocated to a state dedicated for decades to the production of military personnel…..and I saw the phenomenon of long-term knowledge deprivation magnified to grotesque measures. And it dawned on me that “they” have been subjected to the same knowledge deprivation. “They” had more stimuli in life and so may appear more or less competent… but the fact that whole swaths of knowledge have been completely obliterated everywhere for many decades means that even Ivy League students have for decades been evolving in the environment of significant knowledge deprivation. For generations they lived in their bubble. … I don’t ever call it “stupid”, for it’s more like the mowgli effect imposed on the entire population(s) including the richest and most powerful. …
