The Osun State Governorship Election 2026 has concluded, and the numbers tell the story of how it went.

Dataphyte's observers processed 431 updates and incidents on election day: 328 election updates and 103 incident reports. While peaceful voting topped the updates received, the incident reports reveal recurring challenges like late arrival of election officials, BVAS malfunctions, vote trading or voter inducement, disputes, and voting delays.

Ife Central, Ife North, Boripe, Egbedore, and Ife East emerged as the state's incident hotspots, each with its own pattern, from vote trading in Ife Central to BVAS disruptions in Ede South and Ilesha East.

Nigeria's oil and gas companies are now required to disclose their methane emissions, which is a first step toward real climate accountability. Dataphyte's analysis of NEITI's 2022 – 2023 data reveals a data integrity problem, as companies appear to be using different, unexplained methane conversion methods, making it nearly impossible to compare one firm to another, or even one year to itself.

Key insights:
- Nigerian oil companies used at least 4 different formulas to calculate methane emissions, and none disclosed which one they used.

-One of the 15 companies reported figures 6 to 25 times higher than every other company's, with no clear explanation.

- Nigerian oil companies reported methane mass reduced to 31% in 2023, but the climate-impact figure barely changed, showing the drop reflects reporting inconsistencies, and not real progress.

According to sources, e-hailing apps like Bolt have reportedly been suspended at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, leaving travellers with the option of using the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)-run taxi service.

But the service comes with its own challenges: the dedicated FAAN app doesn’t work, there is no real-time trip tracking, no driver information beyond what the driver provides verbally, and fares are almost 50% higher than what travellers used to pay.

The Dataphyte team went to the airport to see how the new arrangement is playing out, from the manual booking process at the service desk to the experiences of FAAN taxi drivers.

With no real-time tracking system in place in a city with a high number of reported “one-chance” robbery cases, we ask: Is this arrangement actually safer?

PRESS RELEASE | DATAPHYTE ELECTION OBSERVER ASSAULTED DURING OSUN ELECTION 2026

An accredited Dataphyte election observer was assaulted, had his phone and belongings seized, and was forced to leave a Registration Area Centre in Ikire, Irewole LGA, while documenting the deployment of electoral officials and materials on election morning.

This incident contradicts the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which affirm the right of accredited observers to document electoral activities and the election materials. Section 41(4) of the Act provides that "Polling agents who are in attendance at a polling unit may be entitled, before the commencement of the election, to have originals of electoral materials to be used by the Commission for the election inspected, and this process may be recorded as evidence in writing, on video or by other means by any Polling Agent, accredited observer or official of the Commission."

This clearly affirms the right of our observer, who is accredited under INEC, to document how election materials and officers are deployed to polling units.

Dataphyte thereby calls on INEC and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the alleged assault, threats, and deletion of recorded evidence, and take appropriate action.
