VICTORY! After a long campaign led by survivors of solitary confinement, families with loved ones in solitary, and families who have lost loved ones in solitary, the #HALTsolitary Confinement Act is now law!

A Minnesota judge has ruled that there were aggravating factors in the death of George Floyd, paving the way for a longer sentence for Derek Chauvin. https://t.co/tQdrsE0MHO
So grateful to have spent the evening and the year with such brilliant minds. I will miss this so much! Thanks for a great #sensemchat and a great year! ❤️
A4: King’s quote “the appalling silence of the good people” stands out to me as a reminder in today’s world that to be silent on matters of injustice is to be complicit #sensemchat
I believe that most people are at their core good, but I can see where this could be a slippery slope. I think King provides insight on this, arguing that laws should be followed if they promote human personality. Not a concrete answer, but an answer nonetheless #sensemchat
As stated in Dr. King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail "Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension" (King). Non-violence brings attention and forces people to care and negotiate about an issue that could be overlooked.
@CSHSeniorSem “We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was ‘legal’” writes King, arguing that the law of a country does not necessarily align with the law of humanity, and as such, civil disobedience should always promote the law of human goodness #sensemchat
@CSHSeniorSem I would definitely say it is! Rather than allowing the oppressor to continue with violence, it calmly and wordlessly shows dissent without need for violence #sensemchat
I think turning the other cheek means not only refusing to react violently but also to show the oppressor what they are doing wrong. We’ve had interesting conversations in theology classes about the connotation of this phrase! #sensemchat
