Introducing Claude Opus 4.6. Our smartest model got an upgrade.
Opus 4.6 plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks for longer, operates reliably in massive codebases, and catches its own mistakes.
It’s also our first Opus-class model with 1M token context in beta.
appreciate you saying that
you're right - what we're doing seems backwards
we've clearly spent 80% of our effort on ui, packaging, abstractions you feel aren't very useful
and 20% on making "the smartest harness"
but this is an intentional strategy - there's a small window of time to grab land right now
outside of the big ai labs and cursor there's room for maybe 1 more agent to exist and a year from now they rest will go to 0
so it's extremely important to prioritize things that get usage and embed yourself in large organizations
we've understood there's a bar you need to clear on quality of your harness and beyond that the majority of people cannot notice the difference so that isn't the place to focus right now
you've probably seen our stats on our user growth
several massive companies are retooling all their internal workflows using opencode
this isn't accidental the things we put effort into are what enable this, it's 100 small things no one notices
the fact that oh my opencode could even do what it did and get 2k+ stars in a week demonstrates this
soon these things will be mostly done and we can rotate back to making our harness better - we've also been working on a set of evals we'll be making public soon
there's also a ton we do in terms of the industry that isn't visible in our code - aiden has spent the last few weeks debugging quality issues across a bunch of LLM providers and helping them fix them, be more competitive and push prices down for everyone
so yes there's a lot of work ahead and only like 10% of what we've built so far can be considered good
but given it's been 6 months and we still have the smallest team im pretty happy with where things are
