I went to high school with a kid named Joe.
He was two years older. Tough, positive, friendly.
We crossed paths on the football field a couple times.
I didn’t know Joe well, but I think about him every Memorial Day.
Joe joined the Army after graduating in 2005.
By the spring of ‘07, he was in Iraq. Joe was a gunner, doing military stuff outside Baghdad.
A false report of his death rippled through our school that spring. Nobody could believe it.
“Joe!? That wouldn’t happen to him.”
Strong, positive, brave guys like Joe don’t die at 20 years old.
But a month later, it did.
Joe’s unit was ambushed and captured. They found his body in the Euphrates River.
I’ll never forget when Joe came home.
The town filled our football stadium, and they brought Joe’s casket in on a horse-drawn carriage.
I was a couple weeks away from graduating and moving into the next season of life. Everything felt ahead of me.
And here was Joe, his last season complete.
There have been hundreds of thousands of Joes over the generations.
Thank you, Joe, and every other service member who’s given their life so we can enjoy ours.

@acaseofthegolf1 My biggest fear would be duck hooking into the crowd and seriously injuring someone. I am amazed at how close people are allowed to stand around a golfer, especially when they have a dicey lie and tree trouble.
@MrOH1O Only way he survives is with a fantastic March. He would have to at least make a run to elite 8. Not likely to even make the tournament at this point.
@PGA There are 2 pieces of advice I always think about: Make a good shoulder turn and stop worrying about trouble all the time and focus on the shot you want to hit.
@Bucknuts247@SteveHelwagen@_Pat_Murphy It means Holt needs to accomplish something special in March. That “Last Shining Moment” better have a lot of Ohio State highlights.
@FFbuckCLE The targeting rule has ruined Day. Wade’s target against Clemson which wasn’t even flagged on the field and the target that was flagged last year against Georgia and picked up after review. Things would be a lot different if one of those went his way.
@atic_sports I think what bothers me the most about this play is the sheer panic from Lincoln. That is an easy pass to Henderson and he is probably getting at least the 1st down. It looks like he got no reps at all before the bowl game.
@Ohiopreplegends Things do appear to be in shambles…. I sure didn’t get excited by anything Devin or Lincoln did; however the Oline was a disaster the entire evening. Every play there was a missed assignment or a clear whiff on the line. Program seems fragile to fall so low so quick.
@MekkaDonMusic There were several players that opted in for the game. Disappointing to watch how unprepared the team was. I sure have a lot of questions about the last 30 days of preparation.
@Landgrant33 You deliver so much OSU negativity with your account. Starting to wonder if you are actually an Ohio State supporter. Most of your stories and comments are just click bait. If you haven’t noticed - the NIL and portal is out of control and every coach in America has said it.
@tupelophoto@jbook37 I agree with you 100%. I get the narrative “The house is on fire”, but I have to think this staff knows what it is doing and is operating on information the fans have no knowledge of.
@ProGolfCritic@NoLayingUp I am holding out on watching LIV golf until we can agree on how much money I am going to be paid to watch. We are close to a deal, and just have to work out some bonus considerations if I actually watch an event live in person.
@KFChristian_ Solid RB2, had to dance around Henderson injuries and assume the RB1 role on many occasions. I don’t want him to leave, but hope he is successful where he lands.
