Fellow parents: let's teach our kids to fish. Let's equip them with the character they need to do difficult things, to overcome obstacles, to stand up and step forward when others are shying away

You cannot trick your child into good habits. Whether acquiring a good one (eating veggies, regularly exercising) or giving up a bad one (social media, mild addiction).

Good character is not gained by a happy coincidence (or parental contrivance) of circumstances.

@AkunaPawa @elonmusk @whyvert Actually, Africa is on the same trajectory. Fertility rates have dropped from around 7.8 (can't recall how many decades ago) to around 4.2 currently... And all the factors impacting fertility elsewhere on the world are running their course in Africa too.

@kevinnbass Find a church that has an active youth group, so that it's not just 'religion' but a community and friendships. I would go to a church with an emphasis on the Bible as the word of God.

Before you shout 'legacy of apartheid', how many decades have passed, and how has the ANC improved access to and quality of education, and reformed and rehabilitated family and culture?

@HeSundstrom @RomanCabanac With immanent population decline in most of the developed world, if your grandkids have half a set of skills, they will be incredibly 'exportable' in a decade or two.

Used to consider emigrating 'for our kids', couldn't think of any place worth moving to now.

If your 2 year old is falling enough that's your concerned for their safety, it might be worth finding an ASI trained OT in your area. Bring so young, a few sessions could make a big difference.
