Brooklyn Council member Chi Ossé, who was arrested Wednesday while he said he was defending a constituent in an active deed theft dispute from eviction, told NY1 that Gov. Kathy Hochul should “implement a temporary stay on evictions for those who are dealing with pending deed theft cases.”
According to the New York State Attorney General’s office, deed theft happens when the title to a home is taken without the homeowner’s knowledge or consent, often through forgery or deception.
NY1 has reached out to the governor’s office for comment.
