Around the world, populations are moving back to rural areas from towns and cities, an analysis of Deluxe Holiday Homes of more than 50 countries shows. Iceland leads the ranking of countries where populations are moving back to rural areas, with a 1.71% increase in its rural population. The move is driven by the cost of living, remote work, the peace and more tranquil lifestyle away from urban centres.
Kenya ranks 3rd on the list of countries where populations are moving to rural environments. In addition to the tranquilty of rural life, the rise is driven by 29% of Kenyans working remotely. Nigeria is in the 5th position. Remote work in Nigeria has increased by 200% in just two years. This shift has led to a growing preference for the quieter, rural areas, despite the relatively small difference in living costs.
