Explain Docker to me like I’m 5?

Docker = a tool for packaging applications with everything they need to run

this includes:
-> your code
-> your dependencies
-> your runtime

so wherever you run it, it behaves the same way
in practice, a Docker container is created from an image

the image is the blueprint & the container is the running version

now the simple way to think about it:

Docker is like packing your app into a box with all its tools inside, so when you move it somewhere else, nothing is missing & nothing breaks

this is why teams use Docker, it removes differences between environments

what works on your machine works everywhere
