Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying three individuals involved in the hijacking and shooting of a BPC supervisor in Mabopane.

According to preliminary reports, the supervisor was confronted by the suspects, who forcibly took his vehicle and shot him before fleeing the scene. They remain at large.

Mzansi’s guide to not being the headline on Monday morning.

Episode 01:
Because going outside to ‘check’ that noise is how most horror movies start.

Eyes are useful, but your ears are gold.
The only real bang for your buck when you go looking for the source of a bump in the night is visual confirmation that something is actually there. Congrats. You confirmed that your ears still work!

Everything else you accomplish by poking your head outside is:

❌Removing barriers,
❌Announcing your location,
❌Turning a possible scare into a problem.

Not a great ROI if you ask me.

When your wife wakes you up and says: "Danie, gaan kyk", that's the one time you don't listen... and tell her about it.

WHAT NOT TO DO:

Don’t open the door, don’t step out into the yard, and don’t go investigate like you’re the lead in a low-budget horror movie. You just traded layers of safety for front-row exposure.

Don’t turn on the lights and shout ��Who’s there?” from the stoep and then walk toward the sound. That’s the tactical equivalent of holding up a neon sign to your forehead that says “I'm stupid”.

✅WHAT TO DO INSTEAD:

▶️Attempt to get eyes on it without exposing yourself. Visual confirmation is the only thing that changes your decision-making in a meaningful way.

▶️ If you don’t have visual confirmation, treat the unknown like the more cautious option: lock doors, move people to a safe room, and keep communication open

▶️ Phone someone. The unfortunate truth is your local police probably aren't going to answer the phone when you attempt to call them, and at this point, you probably already have an armed response on a panic button. Push it. Whether you've confirmed your suspicion or not. You pay them for that service.

▶️ Keep calm. “I heard something, I’m secure, I’m calling help.” Be boring. Boring is safe.

▶️ If you're armed, get your family behind cover, a bed, for instance, and cover the locked door. If anything violently comes through it unannounced, send it.

If you want adrenaline, join a gym.
Don’t go auditioning for a News24 headline.
