@rplevy@mandylu Let me get this straight: so the 'midwit' is the one saying "transformers", not the one talking about "a kind of mirroring of the structure of attention that is the basis of Peircean semiotics" through gritted teeth
@rplevy I don't have that attitude, because there's no reason to think that's what's happening. So it just sounds like rhetoric without some kind of empirical evidence. Are we supposed to hedge this somehow? Is it cruel to extinguish a flame? Is Sam Altman a contemporary Fishy Joe??
@StevenMandrapa@TheFlowHorse I don't know OP at all or what they offer -- but I do see "why not do these obvious things?" language for things that most people consider trade offs or not trivial at all.. Red flags *for me*
@StevenMandrapa@TheFlowHorse I dunno, I mean it makes sense as like mentor, like a local tennis/golf pro, but makes no sense for actual trading -- like discussing *their* actual positions/edge/plans in real time just seems like huge red flag, makes no sense, moral hazard at best
@rplevy Yeah, itt's not surprising that quantum physics confounds with classical physics, it would be surprising if uncertainty principle was violated at absolute zero, but it's not.. Ye, it's completely flawed, crackpot territory.
@rplevy I don’t really get why it’s a big deal, surely it’s just like pornography, right? it’s not like people particularly treat sentience as some precious thing anyway
@bennpeifert Benn, what should I do if I was the first to person to ever apply numerical methods to fit a vol surface and then did a lil naive inference with it? DMs open.
@bennpeifert TWS has stuff like this https://t.co/aUX4MoWNfL and stuff that lets you plot a surface etc
I’ve not really used it and I didnt watch the explainer so caveat emptor
