New paper by Ross et al showing a novel radical cystectomy SSI prevention bundle decreased the rate of incisional SSIs by 80%. Highly effective strategy to prevent significant morbidity in these pts @Lukelavallee @rhankb @ottdoc@icagiannos@uOttawaUrology https://t.co/wzo2N9TXXQ
We have been swabbing all patients before surgery at UHN/Sinai/WCH. Three positives so far, surgery cancelled. Swabbing protects patients, healthcare workers, and PPE supplies. While not full proof, surgical patients would be a good group for widespread swabbing. @fordnation
Agree. A missed opportunity for sure as mixed results from scattered case series have caused the demise of BCG/IFN. We have many grateful patients who still have their bladder many years later who can thank this drug combo. Onward and hopefully upward with IO and viral trials.
As BCG/Interferon falls out of our armamentarium, tough to reconcile with the fairly large numbers of patients in Ottawa with durable salvage with this treatment. I wonder if we missed an opportunity for RCT on a good treatment. @Lukelavallee@ottdoc@icagiannos
@NickPat9 talking about how our study of subcutaneous drain use in obese transplant patients didn’t show a clear benefit in preventing wound complications. #cua19
