I understand anyone jealous of Cristiano Ronaldo, to be honest. The man is going to retire one day, and whether people admit it or not, football will experience a significant drop in attention, interest, engagement, and global conversation. He is a once-in-a-lifetime athlete.

Sometimes you have to appreciate greatness while it’s still in front of you. Because when it’s gone, you don’t get another version of it. There won’t be another player on this Portugal team that people and the media can build entire news cycles around every single week. Love him or hate him, he moves the sport like very few athletes in history ever have.

And when that rivalry with Messi finally ends, football will lose something special. For nearly two decades they pushed each other to impossible heights, gave us endless debates, unforgettable matches, iconic goals, and moments that defined an entire generation of fans. Whether you supported one or the other, you were part of something that may never be repeated.

Most of the hate Ronaldo gets today isn’t even genuine anymore. It’s engagement farming. He’s one of the few athletes people know they can mention and instantly generate millions of interactions. That alone tells you how big his influence.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave us moments football simply couldn’t have replaced last-minute winners, impossible comebacks, record after record, unforgettable Champions League nights, international glory, and a mentality that inspired millions to believe that hard work could compete with talent.

You don’t have to think he’s the greatest player ever. You don’t even have to like him. But you do have to acknowledge that football has been bigger because Cristiano Ronaldo existed. Players come and go. Icons come once in a generation. Cultural phenomena come even less often.
