When the Kariba tragedy struck, @DavidColtart, @advocatemahere and others were quick to point fingers at Gvt. Should we now do the same to the @CityofBulawayo over the fire that has just broken out in a building barely 10 metres from Town House?

No. Tragedies happen, and the priority should be a swift, coordinated and collaborative response, not political point-scoring. At moments like these, we need less blame and more collective responsibility to protect lives and property.

Zimbabwe’s land reform is entering a transformative new phase.

Government’s shift from the traditional 99-year lease system towards bankable and transferable title deeds has the potential to unlock over US$20 billion in value, while giving farmers stronger and more secure property rights.

With title deeds, farmers can access mortgages and other forms of financing, invest in their farms, increase productivity and build commercially viable agricultural enterprises. The reform will also strengthen investor confidence and attract much-needed capital into the agricultural sector.

With 1,800 applications already processed, this is more than a land administration reform, it is a strategic instrument for agricultural modernisation, economic growth, job creation and investment.

This is NDS2 in action, unlocking the productive value of land and advancing Zimbabwe towards an empowered, prosperous and upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

Corrupt land barons, fake developers, and unauthorized local figures (masabhuku) profit immensely by illegally partitioning land, including wetlands and private property. For those who loudly claimed the Government was doing nothing about the Mbuya Nehanda ferry disaste, here’s your answer. Ignatius Chiome, Kariba RIDA District Coordinator, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide. The investigation is moving, and more arrests have not been ruled out.

97 lives were lost. This is not a matter for political noise or social-media grandstanding. It is a matter of accountability.

The ZRP has confirmed the arrest of Kariba RIDA District Coordinator Ignatius Chiome over the Mbuya Nehanda ferry disaster on Lake Kariba, which claimed 97 lives.

Chiome appeared before the Kariba Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of culpable homicide. He was remanded in custody and is expected back in court on Thursday for his bail application.

The State alleges that overloading, operational failures and administrative negligence contributed to the disaster. Court papers say the 41-year-old ferry was carrying up to 180 passengers and heavy cargo, despite being authorised to carry only 90 passengers.

Investigations are continuing, and more arrests have not been ruled out.
