BREAKING: Iran appears to have struck a vessel in the middle of the Gulf of Oman east of Fujairah, with NASA FIRMS showing the vessel on fire. It would be the first hit in the area in more than 6 months.

US aircraft have been circulating over the exact area of the fire for roughly two hours, including two KC-46 tankers, a KC-135, a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters.

It is the second strike in an unusual location tonight, after Iran struck a tanker with multiple projectiles off Qatar's northern coast earlier, with casualties reported. Both sit well outside the Strait itself.

The USS George Washington, the only US carrier left in the region, is now in the Arabian Sea, roughly 500 km from Fujairah, which likely explains Iran's targeting of more vessels outside the strait.

🤖 Ukraine has shot down a jet-powered Geran-5 drone using a robotic turret for the first time

The claim was made by Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat.

The turrets use machine vision and AI-assisted targeting to calculate a drone’s trajectory and aim the weapon. Ihnat said he had initially been skeptical that a machine-gun system could effectively engage such fast targets. For now, the main limitation is its relatively short range.

The day before, Zelensky said more than 12 such turrets have already been deployed in Kyiv, including to protect bridges, with another eight planned for the Kyiv region. The systems are automated mounts equipped with heavy machine guns.
