I find a mapping of this concept onto the way the hemispheres of our brains attend to the world more satisfying to me. Instead of reductive materialism we have the left hemisphere attention, of which reductive materialism is foundational component.

It's a proxy for something, sure. Loosely proxied to high-trust, highly skilled, but also things like resource-rich and access to larger markets which are less important.
