What a week for Out On Patrol! From making history at Vancouver Pride to representing our organization internationally in Amsterdam, it has been an incredible few days.

At the @lgbtpoliceeu Conference 2026, Out On Patrol members took the stage to share our work with colleagues from around the world.

Our other board members also had the honour of helping close the conference with some exciting news: registration is officially open for the 5th World 2SLGBTQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals @prideacrossbdrs, coming to Vancouver July 27 to 30, 2027. The conference is co-hosted by Out On Patrol and @BCPoliceChiefs, with the Vancouver Police Department serving as host agency.

We capped off an amazing week by joining law enforcement agencies from around the world aboard the Dutch National Police boat for the Amsterdam Canal Parade, this year part of WorldPride. Cruising the canals alongside hundreds of thousands of people celebrating Pride was an experience our members will never forget.

A special thank you to the @POL_Amsterdam Chief Commissioner Holla for joining us on the boat and inviting us to take part.

What a day for Out On Patrol!

For the first time since our public launch in 2020, Out On Patrol officially took part in the Vancouver Pride Parade, and we could not have asked for a better experience.

Seeing our members walking together through the streets of Vancouver, surrounded by friends, family, colleagues, community partners, and thousands of people celebrating Pride, was pretty incredible.

There were lots of smiles, plenty of cheering, and so much support along the entire parade route. For an organization that started six years ago with a simple goal of bringing 2SLGBTQ+ members of law enforcement together and building stronger connections with our communities, this was a pretty special milestone.

A huge thank you to @vancouverpride for working collaboratively with us to reach this milestone. We are incredibly grateful for the open dialogue, partnership, and work that helped make our participation in this year’s parade possible. Thank you as well to everyone who supported us along the way, and especially to our members, friends, families, and supporters who came out and walked with us.

And to everyone who cheered, waved, high-fived, and welcomed us along the route, thank you. You made our first Vancouver Pride Parade one we will never forget.

Out On Patrol board members were proud to help close the European LGBT Police Association Conference 2026 (@lgbtpoliceeu) by sharing some exciting news about the next World Conference!

Early-bird registration is now officially open for the 5th World 2SLGBTQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals @PrideAcrossBdrs, taking place in Vancouver from July 27 to 30, 2027.

Under the theme "Pride Across Borders: Leadership Through Inclusion," the conference will bring together
2SLGBTQ+ criminal justice professionals and allies from around the world to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and help build more inclusive organizations and communities.

The conference is being co-hosted by Out On Patrol and the @BCPoliceChiefs, with the @VancouverPD serving as the host agency.

We are also now accepting proposals to speak at the conference, along with expressions of interest from organizations interested in hosting the 6th World Conference.

We look forward to welcoming the world to Vancouver!

Out On Patrol is proud to have a delegation of members in Amsterdam this week for the European LGBT Police Association (@lgbtpoliceeu) Conference.

Prior to the conference, we had the honour of visiting the Embassy of Canada to the Netherlands in The Hague. @CanEmbNL

We are grateful to Ambassador @AdsettHugh for welcoming our delegation and hosting us in his office, where we enjoyed engaging conversation with him and members of the Embassy team. We appreciated the opportunity to share the work of Out On Patrol and to have a productive conversation about the 5th World 2SLGBTQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals, which Out On Patrol is proud to be co-hosting with the BC Association of Chiefs of Police next year in Vancouver.

Our delegation included representatives from the Vancouver Police Department, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), demonstrating the strong collaboration between our organizations in advancing inclusion and supporting 2SLGBTQ+ criminal justice professionals.

A huge thank you to our CBSA board member and the CBSA Liaison Officer at the embassy for coordinating this visit, making this valuable opportunity possible.

The warm welcome and meaningful discussions set the stage for a productive week, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations throughout the EGPA Conference.

Flashback to 1 year ago today, when Mayor @KenSimCity and council proclaimed “Out On Patrol Day” in the @CityofVancouver!

Such a surreal morning for our organization, as Mayor @KenSimCity proclaimed June 17, 2025, as “Out On Patrol Day” in the @CityofVancouver!

This proclamation coincides with our fifth anniversary, which we celebrated just a few weeks ago.

So amazing to see how far we’ve come, from a small group of likeminded 2SLGBTQ+ members of law enforcement, to an organization with international reach.

Thank you to Mayor Sim and Council for recognizing our work, it’s truly an honour!

It was an honour to meet three members of the LGBT Purge Fund Board @lgbt_fund: Martine Roy and Diane Pitre (formerly of the Canadian Armed Forces) and Staff Sergeant Wayne Davis (formerly of the RCMP).

They came to the Trout Lake Community Centre for a screening of "The Fruit Machine," a documentary about the experiences of LGBT individuals from the RCMP, military, and public service who, from the 1950s to the 1990s, faced discrimination, harassment, surveillance and, in many cases, dismissal, simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This included individuals working within corrections.

The event, organized by retired VPD Staff Sergeant Dr. Val Spicer and moderated by VPD's 2SLGBTQ+ Liaison Officer, Det. Cst. Kat Dauncey, was very well-attended. It was clear that the audience was very moved, especially since a good number had been unaware of the full extent of The Purge. This was my third time watching the documentary, and each time I've learned something new about this dark chapter in our history.

A common theme from the audience Q&A was the importance of re-telling these stories because it is important to understand our collective history. As journalist @JohnIbbitson said in the documentary, "It's in all of our interests to look at things that have happened in the past---injustices---to recognize them, to face up to them, to make amends for them," especially since "any of us at any time can become a minority" ourselves.

Thanks also to Cst. Flora Hsu, Stephen Menon from the City of Vancouver 2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, Suzanne Muir, Chief of Metro Vancouver Transit Police, and @victoriajungvan, Chair of the Vancouver School Board, for attending. Victoria's question about educating young people about the Purge was especially important.

This past Sunday, Out On Patrol was proud to attend the screening of The Fruit Machine at Trout Lake Community Centre as part of Pride Month.
The documentary shines a light on the LGBT Purge, a painful chapter in Canadian history when thousands of 2SLGBTQ+ members of the RCMP, military, and public service faced discrimination, surveillance, and career-ending consequences simply for being who they were.

We were especially honoured that our Board Member, @vpddiversity Detective Constable Kat Dauncey, moderated the post-screening discussion featuring LGBT Purge survivors Martine Roy, Diane Pitre, and Wayne Davis. Their stories, courage, and resilience left a lasting impact on everyone in attendance.

Thank you to Trout Lake Community Centre for hosting this important event, Elder Sempulyan for the land acknowledgement, Out in Harmony for the beautiful musical performance, and all of the community members and organizations who came together to learn, reflect, and remember.

As we celebrate Pride, it’s important that we also acknowledge the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us. Their experiences remind us why inclusion, dignity, and equality matter, and why there is still work to do.
