Many of us are dealing with the pain and grief of seeing that which we love disappearing before our eyes. And how much more frustrating it is to see so much good work undone in the blink of an eye, or in the flourish of a pen.
It is all too easy to sink into de-motivation in this fight for the common good - especially when we feel the responsibility to bequeath a safer planet to future generations.
So how do we transform that pain, grief and frustration into positive action, rather than letting it become a weight that prevents action? As my teacher Zen Buddhist Master Thích Nhất Hạnh used to say, “No mud, no lotus”, meaning that we can compost those feelings - we can allow them to become the soil that nourishes our interactions, intentionally using them to create the world we wish to see.
In fact, those feelings can allow us to access the depths of our hearts and so are the very thing that enables the courageous action we need now.
