as i said at times it can be a genetic predisposition and it manifests immediately, at other times it can be triggered as age goes on due to trauma, vitiligo shows up differently from one person to another, in different types it can go from focal, to mixed, to generalized to universalis (which was the one michael had), mind you michael had lupus too, discoid lupus at that, that specifically targeted the skin too
