@davidswann1 Lovely photo, David. Back in the early 2000s we had many visiting our garden (14 one year) and for a few years had pairs nesting in boxes I put up. Sadly there are non now and have not seen any in the garden for many years. Sad and depressing.
@davidswann1 Lovely photo, David. For a bird that is constantly on the move it is difficult to get a clear view of the plumage and see just how colourful it is. The lighting on this bird seemed to be just right. Well done!
@davidswann1 Interesting flower, David. My app tells me it is a Gerbera Daisy ... does that sound about right? Never heard of such a plant before - you live and learn 🤔 Ken
@theRSGB Fond memories of operating 4U1ITU in the mid 70s when attending a conference at the ITU in Geneva. You only had to breath the call sign into the microphone and there would be an instant pile-up. Best contact was on 20m with Antarctica with 1kw into a 4 element beam. Happy days.
This year's ouzel breeding season in Rosedale has ended and results continue to be disappointing. It's the second consecutive year that low adult returns have been recorded and follows a worrying trend of wider national decline. The reasons remain a mystery.
So pleased to say that my 300+ sound recordings of the Ring Ouzel song are now safely archived at the University of York Borthwick Institute for Archives. This is a unique collection of the North York Moors Ring Ouzel song in the early part of the 21 century.
@davidswann1@Natures_Voice@NorthYorkMoors@nymnptrust@VisitTld That's interesting David. A mandarin duck came into my garden a couple of years ago along with a female mallard. Both flew off together after the mallard had had a paddle in the bird bath. The mandarin seemed to be following the mallard around and probably came from the TLD lake.
The switch to stronger south-easterly winds did the trick, with a shake-up of migrants present today; 13 Ring Ouzel and a Blue-headed Wagtail our highlights, with full totals on the website as usual: https://t.co/2m3gIzPipr

This lovely female Ring Ouzel made its way into Vaadal on this mornings trap rounds. Always a treat to see up close. The pale-scaled appearance to the underparts is beautiful.
Todays light southerly breeze and drizzle delivered a small arrival of migrants @FI_Obs. A lovely male Ring Ouzel showed unusually well for this typically shy species. However, my highlight was watching a Grasshopper Warbler scurry up and down a small burn on Ward Hill!
First male Ring Ouzel arrived in Rosedale today. Previous earliest date was the 21 March so today's arrival continues the long-term trend towards arrival dates becoming earlier.
Our first PECHORA PIPIT since 2019 teased us today, plus the autumn's first Olive-backed Pipit during what was an excellent day for Redwings. A Lanceolated Warbler, Hoopoe, Little Bunting & Arctic Redpoll were also logged. Read all about it: https://t.co/2m3gIzPQeZ

@davidswann1@Natures_Voice@YorksWildlife@WoodlandTrust@BC_Yorkshire@savebutterflies Again, David, you've given me the answer to a butterfly I noticed recently and didn't know what it was. Took a poor quality photo on my mobile which was good enough to compare with your excellent photo. Thanks for that, David. Trust you're keeping well.
