I’ve been trying to figure out what’s actually not clicking with me, and I think I finally have an answer.
It’s not microtransactions. I don’t mind paying for things. I understand I’m a guy looking for a premium experience. and I’ll gladly pay a premium for a football simulation that delivers that.
What feels “off” to me is the underlying design philosophy driving most of these sports games nowadays - the progression rpg-like systems… the “gamification”. It’s that language and the mechanics.
I see all this “XP. Skill trees. Coach progression. Abilities. Objectives.” And it all reminds me of other video games I never cared to play 🤷♂️
None of that stuff is what drew me to sports games in the first place. I’m not a gamer. I don’t enjoy RPGs or “the grind”. I play football games because I love football. that’s more than enough to keep me engaged.
When I start a Dynasty, I don’t really want to “build my coach.” I want to build a football program. I want to be immersed in the storylines of the season.
When I play Road to Glory, I don’t think about optimizing a character build and unlocking stuff. I want to experience a football career.
Ultimate Team, competitive online, and other progression-heavy modes have a huge audience. They bring in the money. And yeah…
I don’t know what else to say.
I guess I’m wanting an immersion-first experience that doesn’t force me into that same “online gamer” register.
Just wanted to make clear that my critique goes deeper than just “microtransactions bad - EA greedy”.
Insane: Former NFL star RW Josh Gordon says that the Super Bowl is BIGGER than the World Cup.
"It’s a bigger show. It’s a better show. We’re going to have more eyes on it, so football I guess is bigger."

Wiz Khalifa’s 13-year-old son Bash called him about a kid trying to fight him at the mall, and Wiz gave him real advice about de-escalating, protecting himself, and not putting himself in bad situations 👀💯
He also then told chat he doesn’t care if people clip the moment or criticize his parenting, saying his son is his responsibility and people will get a totally different reaction if they speak on that
@justadudedx@BodieWeeBey Maybe the global consensus, but the question was asked to specifically Americans. SB is annual and peaked at 125 million viewers. US/Australlia was about 20 million. And I get it’s not the final game, but the playoff games also do way more numbers.
@justadudedx@BodieWeeBey I get you wouldn’t be, but a lot are. Which is my point! If you are a true lover of football ( the Texans) a SB trophy would easily mean more. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy for you and the fans getting to attend and hosI think the World Cup is awesome. But nah gimme that SB lol
