@dantrimont@highbrow_nobrow I wasn't there so just saying what my grandfather told me. The story I got was that since the Mennonites would not fight and they had what seemed to be the most productive land, the leadership decided to give their land to their friends. Bismark wanted soldiers.
@dantrimont@highbrow_nobrow My grandparents were Mennonites in East Prussia and were forced out in the 1880s by Bismark. Thousands were thrown out and many settled in Kansas (introducing the Hard Red Winter Wheat that now feeds the world). By the 1880s, religious tolerance was over.
