We reserve the best chairs for them at weddings, give them the pulpit to motivate the church, and celebrate them online as ultimate success stories. Yet behind the glossy image of most of Kampala's wealthy men is a disturbing truth.
You are crammed in a taxi on Jinja Road at rush hour, and beside you glides a black Land Cruiser V8. Do not envy it. Many of those cars are owned by banks, fitted with trackers. The man inside may be sweating under the air conditioner, fuel light blinking, seats technically belonging to Equity Bank, with a recovery agent trailing him on a boda.
In this city, maintaining status is a full-time job of hiding debt. Look inside elite clubs. Many men sipping single malt are deep in the red, ticking toward collapse. Buildings across Kampala survive on a final court order. Once the patron falls, the whole structure crumbles. Many V8s in jam have empty tanks because the owner used his last money to bribe a bailiff to avoid impounding.
Consider the ex-MP who owned every spot in Ntinda. While in office, cash poured funding car washes and keeping a girlfriend in a furnished flat in Naalya with a new Hyundai. Then the ballot box at 5pm took the title away. Now his wallet is dead, his fuel station credit blocked over bounced cheques, and his lover wakes to an empty fridge, rent arrears, and only Umeme notifications. The humble campus boyfriend she rejected for lacking ambition has built rentals in Kira, married a peaceful woman, and sleeps soundly.
In the mansions of Muyenga and Buziga, homes feel like prisons. On a three-million shilling imported mattress, husband and wife lie back-to-back, clutching separate pillows. Outside, the guard snores peacefully on a thin, flattened foam mattress and will father six healthy children while the tycoon on his orthopedic bed battles blood pressure and visits fertility clinics.
When the banks finally take over, children raised in tinted cars are dumped into a harsh reality they were never prepared for.
We sacrifice our youth for image, only to earn money when our bodies are broken. The old tycoon can buy a resort, but his knees are gone and his diet is water and half a slice of bread.
At his funeral, ministers in sharp suits give dramatic speeches under big tents while cows roast. But the veiled widow in front is panicking she doesn't know which accounts will be frozen on Monday or which titles are fake. Families rush to State House to beg protection from auctioneers. Banks don't wait for burial; they advertise the mansion in Saturday papers before the grave dries, sometimes while the owner is still on oxygen.
Meanwhile, the boda rider balancing beer crates in the rain, debt-free and laughing at TikTok, sleeps better.

I am not safe.
Individuals wearing UPDF uniforms came to my residence, accompanied by a drone.
Fortunately, I was not at home at the time. I later reviewed my security-camera footage and saw them at my door. I am concerned for my safety.
What did Sam Mugumya do? What did Eddie Mutwe do? What is Elias Lukwago’s crime? How about Waiswa Mufumbiro? Bobi young? Who is harassing them because of their political views? What did Muwanga Kivumbi do really? Why is Bobi wine and Ssemujju Nganda not in the country?
Hon. Nameere!!!
Also, let’s not forget that Sam Mugumya is still held in the dungeons where he was maimed, on the verge of death. Let’s keep pushing for #JusticeForSamMugumya, for his release so that we #SaveSamMugumya. While the state denied, on oath, having him in their custody, this video corroborates what two other people who have seen him in that dungeon have said.
We now stand at UGX 24,000,000 for @SpireJim. So Ugandans have contributed 24M in the last 24 hours!! This is love. This is solidarity. This is defiance. This is appreciation… and so much more🥹❤️❤️
He's mobilized much more than 30 million for the underprivileged and the needy.
It's his turn now. We're his only hope since the government that should protect him has turned against him.
Friends, how about we respond with this video under every government officials and entities’ tweets, demanding for the release of Sam Mugumya. It is over a year now!
IMPUNITY OR MADNESS‼️
What force drives a sane person to drive in opposite direction (wrong lane) on Entebbe Kampala Express way?
Driver of Prado registration plate “2026 Muhoozi” did it and crashed in a UN vehicle today evening.
Drive carefully guys, there are many reckless drivers high on impunity making our roads extremely unsafe…even the Police seems like they fear them.
Who will STOP THIS MADNESS‼️

Shivan's dream lives behind the mixing board. She's cleared to start sound engineering at ESOM and just needs tuition, a laptop and headphones.
Help her turn a passion into a craft.
Any amount counts.
In my village, Butozi. Has it ever happened to you? You go to report a misbehaving child to the parents (Chairman), so that they discipline him. The father stays in the bedroom, doesn’t come out. The following day he comes to your home and says: “I heard you have issues with my child, that he beats people on the village. Actually you should thank him, for he hasn’t killed them. He is disciplining them properly”. Do you go back to report to him? Do you wonder again where the child’s guts come from? Things on my village! Things fall apart, the center can no longer hold
