Yet the long-term health of football depends on more than balance sheets. A reluctant or unhappy footballer is rarely at his best, and the resulting tension can undermine the collective spirit that Atlético Madrid has always prized.

Releasing Julián Álvarez would not be an act of weakness. It would be a statement of principle 💪
