personally i am not really impressed when a computer is good at math — since a computer is math . i am a lot more intrigued by things like , for example , a rat being an exceptional cook — since that’s not really expected
if TK was still at the helm of uber likely:
- would’ve continued deep investments & had a reasonable competitor on autonomy.
- wouldn’t have lost to doordash for last mile delivery.
- would’ve still held much stronger tech talent since so many people prefer working for a strong founder.
- would’ve made great strategic acquisitions for the long term.
i suspect firing TK likely cost maybe at least $500b of future market cap & global domination potential for uber. TK had such grand plans for the company & he would’ve never let anyone beat them. there is a lesson here somewhere.
fast food arbitrage: many restaurants sell variants of the same burger with and without cheese. the price difference is typically much greater than the retail cost of a kraft american single. therefore there exists an arb where one buys kraft single slices separately and places them on the cheeseless burger variant, assembling a synthetic cheeseburger derivative and collecting the spread in cheese prices as profit
bob iger just sent a company wide email telling all disney employees they have till 5pm tomorrow to decide if theyre ready to go ‘mad for the mouse’ or take severance

Of course that's your contention. You're a spreadsheet guy. You just got finished reading about valuation, McKinsey probably. You're gonna be convinced of that until next month when you research what happened to CRM in ‘08
I'm not surprised that Adobe is acquiring Figma for $20B, nor that Wall Street doesn't understand it and $ADBE stock is down more than $20B today. It's a smart move for Adobe because it's nearly impossible to make legacy software applications multi-user collaborative. Thread: 🧵

One of the hardest mental shifts for ppl who haven't spent time at a high growth startup is accepting that the challenges *are* the job. The Zen proverb says it best "the obstacle is the path"
