Transportation researcher. Director of Accessibility Observatory (@UMNAccOb). Not born in @CityMinneapolis but got here as soon as I could. Obligate autodidact.
Sidewalk clearing might be the most impactful step @CityMinneapolis could take to support transportation for residents. Sidewalks are the “last 1/10 mile” link for almost every trip in the city, and complement walking, biking, transit, and driving trips alike.
@mopeymcsadsack@nhojelttil@bagofmoons I’d never thought about it this way! I think you’re spot on, and I think it shares this core… theme? with Homestar Runner. The old computer & video game feel, Coach Z is a permanent dose of ~1980, comedy barreling obliviously through Strong Sad’s perpetual crisis.
@bagofmoons@douglasmack@emily7m @flynnwaslike @jessevondoom Maybe you present it as a perk? Like “so in case you get bored the Roku downstairs is set up for Netflix and HBO, and also you can use this to shoot chipmunks in the head”
"More than 60% of the line is now constructed, particularly along its western stretch. But only 40% of a special wall for a key tunnel in Minneapolis' Kenilworth Corridor has been completed so far." https://t.co/LmQY5pfScI
@TeagueLyons GUY: “Harlan! The last train to Chicago is fixin’ to leave!”
HARLAN (trying to get attention of love interest in chaotic station): “I’ll catch the 7:09 tomorrow.”
GUY: “No, I mean the LAST TRAIN TO CHICAGO! There ain’t none tomorrow, nor never!”
Important if wonky issue for sustainable transport in the US. The new @uscensusbureau policy of adding falsehoods to fine-grained data is a problem for transit/walk/bike planning, which is sensitive to smaller distances than traffic planning and thus needs data in smaller zones.
@douglasmack Our kids have settled on “dessert of X” where X is an eating occasion other than dinner. So they have asked for “dessert of lunch” and “dessert of snack” and have considered how wonderful it would be if “dessert of breakfast” ever happened.
