The corrupt Biya regime in Cameroon hunts its political opponents, enables Wagner’s illicit activities, and has created conditions for jihadist groups like Boko Haram and ISIS to thrive and fuel the Anglophone crisis. The regime has staged a sham re-election, and unlawfully detained Americans citizens, including those from Idaho. Cameroon is not a U.S. partner, and poses economic and security risks to the American people. It’s time to reassess this relationship before the blowback gets worse.
@P_VanDamme_EU Indeed it is a shame to see Africa with good Leaders. Poverty is not just the lack finances, it is also the absence of humanity in one's life. Praying for real democracy in Cameroon and in Africa. We can't continue crumbling this low while other nations thrive.
Breaking News: Cameroon MP Killed After Separatists Collected 6 Million Ransom
Hon. Abe Michael, Member of Parliament for the Ako/Mesaje Special Constituency, has been killed by suspected separatist fighters after they allegedly collected a ransom payment from his family.
Last Friday, suspected separatist fighters abducted the lawmaker in Ndu Subdivision, Northwest Region, while he was returning from electoral duties following the October 12 presidential elections. His captors demanded 15 million CFA francs for his release, according to CNA.
Family sources said they managed to raise and deliver 6 million CFA francs to the kidnappers, but despite receiving the payment, the armed group killed the MP.
Hon. Abe Michael had been travelling with several others who were also abducted and ordered to pay ransom. Their fate remains unclear at this time.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but security sources confirm that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators and rescue the remaining hostages.
Hon. Abe Michael, a member of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), was known for his involvement in local development projects and peace advocacy within his constituency.
His death sheds light on the ongoing conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced hundreds of thousands since 2017.

Donc on fait campagne directement à la présidence, payée par tous les camerounais, même ceux qui se présentent contre lui… et on diffuse ça sur le média d’État, aussi financé par nous tous. Si ce n’est pas de la triche, c’est quoi alors?
Urgent!
Police in Yaounde have arrested and detained Gabrielle Souga, an intern with The Post Newspaper who was on official assignment to cover the ongoing Constitutional Council proceedings. She has been detained in a cramped cell at the First District Police Station since Monday, and efforts by The Post staff and CAMASEJ to get her released have been futile.
A statement from CAMASEJ President Jude Viban has strongly condemned the arrest, demanding for her immediate release. Gabrielle Souga is a first-year student at the University of Yaoundé II Soa’s Advanced School of Mass Communication and was apprehended at the entrance to the Yaounde Conference Centre, where the Constitutional Council is holding pre-electoral hearings.
She was detained alongside dozens of individuals suspected of being protesters supporting opposition leader Maurice Kamto. CAMASEJ says she clearly identified herself as a student journalist on official duty, but was forcibly taken in a police vehicle to the Yaounde First District Police Station (Centrale).

The generosity & compassion of the American people have not only saved lives, built peace & improved the state of the world. They have contributed to the stability & prosperity that Americans depend on.
Going through with recent funding cuts will make the world less healthy, less safe & less prosperous.
I can only hope that these decisions can be reversed based on more careful reviews. The same applies to other countries that have recently announced reductions in humanitarian & development aid.
