Enigma – Layer 4 – THE MAZE

Mazes are a crucial part of this collection.
Three years ago, when I first envisioned creating a generative art collection, I wanted to build it around maze algorithms something that has always fascinated me. I challenged myself to design a collection where a perfect maze would be the central element. Although I never released that initial project, echoes of the concept can be found in Enigma.

For maze generation, I used Kruskal’s algorithm to create a perfect maze one that I could shape and manipulate as I wanted. By adjusting probabilities, I could form fascinating patterns like chessboards, spirals, and more.

But what’s a maze if you can’t see it in action? A true maze needs a clear beginning, an end, and no dead ends along the way. A perfect maze is defined as one where there is exactly one unique path between any two points. In my collection, bikes travel from a random point at the bottom of the maze to a random point at the top. If you follow them, you’ll see each one individually solving the puzzle.

To achieve this, I used Dijkstra’s algorithm to calculate the shortest possible path through the maze, ensuring that every bike finds its way efficiently within the structure.

At first glance, these patterns may seem random, but when built the right way, they reveal a deep, underlying complexity.

Enigma – Layer 2 – BLOCK DATA

Deus Ex Machina was the first of its kind collection that use recursive endpoints to utilize blockchain data in an artistic way. With Enigma, I wanted to take another step forward to truly showcase the details of what happens within a specific Bitcoin block.
To achieve this, I visualized four of the most crucial attributes of each Bitcoin block:

🔸Average Fee – Determines the speed of bikes in the maze, as fees are directly tied to speeding up transactions, making it a perfect fit.
🔸Transaction Count – Represents the number of bikes passing through the maze, as the bikes in my art metaphorically represent blockchain transactions, making their numbers naturally correlated.
🔸Max Transaction Size – Defines the length of the lightning tail on each bike, meaning the size of the bike is directly influenced by the transaction size.
🔸Difficulty – Controls the color of the lights in the city windows. Difficulty reflects how hard it is for miners to solve the puzzle required to mine a block. It adjusts every 2,016 blocks, or approximately every two weeks. If difficulty increases, it indicates that more miners are joining the network. If it decreases, it suggests that mining has become less profitable, leading some older machines to be shut down. I compare the current difficulty to its level two weeks ago to visualize the sentiment among miners.

By selecting these specific traits, I was able to create a visually intuitive representation of what occurred in the latest block. My main focus was to make the data easy to understand at a glance, allowing viewers to instantly grasp the essence of the artwork.
