🚨 Georgina Rodríguez On Cristiano Ronaldo's International Retirement:
🗣️ “Cristiano told me immediately after Portugal's World Cup exit against Spain that he was going to retire from international football.
“Two days later, he received a call from the Portuguese Football Federation asking him to reconsider and continue representing his country.
“I personally encouraged him to follow his instincts and walk away while he still had the chance, but he told me he couldn't disrespect his country, especially when they still needed him.
“I respected his decision and told him to do what he believed was right.
“However, I was genuinely shocked by the way Jorge Jesus treated him afterwards.
“After everything Cristiano has sacrificed for Portugal, I never imagined things would end this way.
“He gave his heart, his body and the best years of his career to that national team.
“I have witnessed the passion he carries whenever he wears that shirt, and nobody can ever question his commitment.
“I'm incredibly proud of everything he has accomplished with Portugal.
“He brought joy, trophies, records and unforgettable memories to an entire nation.
“His legacy will live forever, regardless of how this chapter has ended.
“Portugal will never have another Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He will forever remain the greatest footballing name to have come out of Portugal.
“I'm proud of you, my love. Thank you for everything you gave your country.”
🚨 Sir Alex Ferguson’s emotional letter to Cristiano Ronaldo following his retirement from international football:
🎙️ “Cristiano,
I don’t know if you will ever fully understand what you have meant to football, to Manchester United, to Portugal, and most importantly, to me.
When you first walked into my office as a young boy from Sporting Lisbon, I saw something special. I saw hunger, confidence, courage and a boy who believed he could become the best in the world. But even I couldn’t have imagined the heights you would eventually reach.
I remember the young boy who wanted to take on every defender, who stayed behind after training and who was never satisfied with being good enough. Sometimes I had to remind you that football was a team game, but I never wanted to take away that fire inside you.
Today, as you close another chapter of your international career, I want you to know that you have given your country something that cannot be measured in goals or trophies.
You gave Portugal belief. You carried the hopes of millions, you cried for your country, you fought for your country, and you eventually gave them a European Championship. You made an entire generation believe that nothing was impossible.
I have watched you grow from that talented young boy into a man who has challenged the limits of this beautiful game. And I must tell you something: I am proud of you.
People will argue about who was the greatest. They will compare your records, trophies and achievements. But when I look at you, I don’t just see a footballer. I see a young boy who refused to surrender his dreams.
You may be saying goodbye to international football, but you will never say goodbye to the memories you have given us.
And if I could speak to that 18-year-old boy I brought to Manchester all those years ago, I would tell him one thing:
‘You have no idea how many lives you are about to touch.’
But there is one thing I must say. I don’t believe this is how your international journey should have ended. A player who has given so much to his country deserves a much greater honour and farewell. You deserved to walk away with an entire nation celebrating your extraordinary contribution to Portuguese football.
Portugal owes you more than a goodbye, Cristiano. You deserve a farewell worthy of a king.
Thank you, Cristiano. It was an honour to be your manager, but it was an even greater privilege to watch you become the man you are today.
You will always be my boy, Cristiano.”
