I'm thrilled to announce that Files is now AOT-compiled in the stable release as well, starting with v4.3!
We've also made numerous performance improvements recently.
Update Files and see how much faster it starts up!! 🚀

@MaizChido Just give v4.3 a try or did you try it already (we've improved memory usage as well)? If so, mind telling me the scenario? Like, is that when navigating to a folder containing thousands of items, or just a few? Does it get worsened as you keep using the app hours, days, etc.?
Asides this, I realized that the winapp VSCode extension supports debugging a WinUI app. I wish it also would support hot reload, visual tree, properties, etc… maybe.
That’d be an excellent dev experience.
Tried the winapp CLI too, which works with agents very very well.
I hate when agents steal desktop focus to do UI automation.
The next winapp CLI release will add Windows Sandbox support so agents can run and automate apps while I keep working.
winapp run --on sandbox
winapp ui invoke button --on sandbox
Would you find this useful?
I've created a recompiler/decompiler of xbf documents (compiled binary of XAML). It supports XBF1, 2, 2.1 variants, and supports System XAML and WinUI XAML dialects.

We, the Files team, are preparing for Native AOT. We have already resolved all AOT issues (runtime marshaling, reflections, etc) and have been testing PublishAot internally.
Will announce soon.
I'm excited to share that today is my first day at Microsoft, joining the Windows Developer Platform team! I'll be working on the Windows App SDK and working with developer communities to help evolve the platform and make building great apps on and for Windows even better. #winui
Files is now officially integrated with WindowSill, which is outlined in the 4.2.2 release note.
We have a plan for better integration of Files with other applications as well. Keep tuned in our Discord server!

Someone got Metal-to-Vulkan translation working and packaged it as a paravirtualized GPU in QEMU, so you can run a macOS VM with full hardware accelerated Metal 4 graphics on top of a Linux host with any Vulkan GPU, such as modern Nvidia cards that macOS doesn’t support. 🤯
