A few of us are heading to the Tory party conference protest in Manchester tomorrow. If anyone else was planning to go and wants to meet up, just let us know!

This is for anyone who still believes austerity doesn't kill people:
“My only income has been ESA benefit as I am unfit for work. On August 15 2018 the DWP decided to terminate those benefits. This means I am no longer able to pay rent or afford food."

"But our job, inside and outside the therapy room, is to help people find their voice and take control of their own stories, and feel empowered to speak out against injustice."
From one of our own, Dave, on what we're all about. Great to be able to collaborate with orgs like PPR
"There are not enough doctors, there are not enough nurses. The NHS is being destroyed, and now you come here for a press opportunity"

With respect to diversity among staff and trainees, it seems there is much work to do. Though that is a challenge affecting virtually ALL UK DClinPsy courses. And UK psychology generally! The Oxford course also hosts a great, annual, 1-day conference for BAME potential trainees.
The @DCPPreQual Alternative Handbook reviews all UK clinical psychology doctorate courses based on current trainees’ opinions. The Oxford review is mixed, reflecting a course in flux under new leadership. Worrying that 45% are unlikely or very unlikely to recommend the course???
This year's alternative handbook is now available! Qualitative comments are included again. Message us thoughts/questions.

With respect to curriculum inclusion of social and political concepts that locate sources of distress beyond the individual, the general theme seems to match this quote:
“Social and political concepts are underexamined which I think reflects the dominant model of CBT therapy.”
"If we are to frame obesity as ‘a poor lifestyle choice’- can we as a society truly say we have offered a ‘choice’ of lifestyles?"
Excellent article from our PSC friends in London.

Is austerity over? In short, no.
“Departments such as work and pensions have suffered cuts of 6️⃣9️⃣% since 2010, the justice department suffered cuts of 3️⃣1️⃣%, and local government suffered cuts of 7️⃣7️⃣%.”
Look at those figures! They cut so much!

The Good Childhood Report explores the finding that financial strain results in reduced childhood wellbeing. We echo this finding and would add that increasing health and income inequalities are contributing to the violence our young people are experiencing on a daily basis.
