@Schn33_LFC@E93Jack He’s not saying international fans can’t support the club, or even go to home games. He’s saying they shouldn’t get preferential treatment over local fans for one of the biggest away games in the club’s history. Not unreasonable.
@Schn33_LFC@E93Jack I don’t think international fans realise how hard it is for local premier league and championship fans to get away tickets in general. You need a season ticket and often away loyalty points on top of that. There are loads of local fans that don’t get to go to away games.
@felixcharles77@LoveOfTheGround I am saying you don’t know about the dynamics of fans sat on your sofa watching on TV. Just like I wouldn’t presume to tell you about the ‘dynamics’ of the South African Premiership.
@felixcharles77@LoveOfTheGround So we going back to pre 1893 football? Fans care more about their club team than the national team even if none of the players are English because their connection to the club matters more than where the players are from. 90% of fans choose club over country.
@felixcharles77@Craigos0@LoveOfTheGround How are you telling English fans what matters to them with such confidence? Stop larping other people’s culture cause you watch the premier league on TV from 6,000 miles away.
@felixcharles77@LoveOfTheGround Just not realistic in the modern game. I support a league one club and only 3-4 of our squad are from the local area. Doesn’t change my relationship with the club I follow home and away every week.
@felixcharles77@Craigos0@LoveOfTheGround Player transfers have been part of the English game since the beginning. Fans like an academy prospect, but there’s no expectation that the whole team is going to be full of them. Their priority is the best team on the pitch to bring success to their club.
@felixcharles77@LoveOfTheGround The first player transfer happened in 1893 - Jack Southworth was sold from Blackburn Rovers to Everton for £400. There’s never been the expectation that players had to be fans of the club they play for. The fans are the fans. The players are the players.
@felixcharles77@Craigos0@LoveOfTheGround How are you telling English fans about their relationship with their local club from your vantage point in South Africa?
@felixcharles77@LoveOfTheGround Fans understand the players are employees who have been brought in to help the club succeed for a short period of time. 60 years ago it was someone from the other end of the country, now it’s from further afield. The lasting relationship is between the fans and the club.
