@FuneralJollof@PalgraveDanquah Did agrada receive any clemancy from th president or she went on appeal in the courts and had her sentence reduced?
You went to school. Use your brain from school
Dear Dr. @MBawumia,
YOU CANNOT REWRITE HISTORY NOR THE LAWS OF GHANA FROM YOUR STATE-FUNDED RETIREMENT HOME.
Do you remember, that in 2022, while you were Vice President and Chairman of the Police Council, Bobbie Ansah was prosecuted for alleging you, Dr. Bawumia and your wife Madam Samira Bawumia have used state funds to acquire properties at the AU Villa?
If a man, with Executive Authority as Vice President and Chairman of the Police Council, looked on for the police to arrest, detain, prosecute and jail a journalist for spreading fake news about him and his wife, can same man in principle, claim to be averse to such prosecutions as one without any power today?
When you had the power to tell the police who you were literally responsible for supervising, to stop the prosecution of Bobbie Ansah, YOU DID NOT. Now that you have no power, you suddenly think it is wrong to do what you looked on to be done just few years ago. In fact, it was done in your name then, as a State Authority and not a private person, YET YOU DID NOT STOP IT. Today you, as a private citizen arrogates to yourself authority to direct the cessation of prosecutions?
Dr. Bawumia, you also appear to misunderstand a basic principle of criminal law. Criminal prosecutions are not private disputes controlled by victims or complainants. A crime may have an identifiable victim, but it is an offence against the Republic.
That is why criminal cases are brought in the name of The Republic, not in the name of Dr. Bawumia, Madam Samira Bawumia or any individual citizen. The decision whether to prosecute rests with the State, acting through constitutionally mandated institutions, not with the personal preferences of opposition party leaders.
Dear Sir, you therefore cannot portray yourself as magnanimously “forgiving” offences that are not legally yours to forgive.
Your Excellency, if you genuinely believe those who allegedly publish falsehoods and threaten harm should never face prosecution, then consistency demands more than a press release.
First you MUST openly apologize to Bobbie Ansah for prosecuting him for saying you and your wife used state funds to purchase properties at the AU Villa.
You must proceed from that to reject the entire architecture of state protection that accompanies your high public status.
Decline state security.
Refuse intelligence protection.
Renounce taxpayer-funded protective measures.
Insist on being treated exactly like every other citizen.
SPARE US YOUR HYPOCRITICAL GRANDSTANDING.
Because one cannot demand the extraordinary protection of the State while simultaneously condemning the State whenever it performs one of its core constitutional functions: enforcing the law.
Equality before the law does not mean immunity from prosecution because a politician has changed his mind after leaving office.
Dear Sir, like everyone else, you are entitled to advocate for legal reform. You are entitled to argue that existing laws are too broad or that Parliament should amend them.
I personally think section 207 and 208 of Act 29 are unconstitutional too but until so declared the court or amended by parliament, they are law. And you, dear Sir, applied those laws to protect your wife and yourself when you had power.
Dear Sir, you can neither rewrite history nor rewrite our laws from your state-funded retirement home.
You had eight years in the highest levels of executive power to demonstrate this supposed commitment to unfettered speech. You did not only fail, you applied these laws when you felt you and your wife were falsely maligned.
As for your friend, @Manasseh_Azure, I will rather ignore his laundering and repacking of you for the Ghanaian people because in more cases than not, I find common ground with his positions. I am sure that upon reading this, he would remember that his claim of consistency in your position is FALSE.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my utmost respect.
@ShowdownTrends If not Atta mills saying father for all and not prosecuting npp members under kuffour who were alleged to have committed various crimes like Wontumi wouldn't be the first npp person to be prosecuted. The npp should thank Atta mills.
