All FIDE Member Federations and eligible players are invited to participate in the inaugural FIDE World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2026, open to players with a FIDE rating under 2300.
The event will be held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, from August 1 (arrival) to August 8 (departure), 2026.

FIDE World Cadet and Youth Rapid & Blitz Championship 2026 kicks off in 🇷🇸 Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia
The event attracted around 450 participants from 40 national federations competing across six age groups – U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 – in Open and Girls’ categories. Both the rapid (April 15–17) and blitz (April 19–20) competitions follow an 11-round Swiss format.

FIDE introduces new World Cadet Championship cycle U8–U12 starting in 2026 ♟️
FIDE is introducing a new competition system for young players in the Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 age groups.
The FIDE World Cadets Cup U8–U12 will be the qualifying event, and the best players will advance to the FIDE World Cadets Championships U8, U10, U12, where the world titles will be decided.
The first Cadets Cup in this new format will take place on June 15–28, 2026, in Batumi. The final championships will be held on November 10–17, 2026.
This new system will help create a clearer and stronger path for young chess talents around the world.
