💔 In the photo — three friends: Anastasiya Yalanska (26), Serhiy Ustymenko (25), and Maksym Kuzmenko (28).

They didn’t yet know that this moment would be the last evidence of their lives. Just a few kilometers from where this picture was taken, an ambush awaited them—one no one would survive.

On the morning of March 4, 2022, the friends loaded Serhiy’s SUV with animal food. Their plan was simple: deliver supplies to a shelter in Zabuchchya and visit Serhiy’s parents in Bucha.

They knew it was dangerous, but they couldn’t imagine that the russian occupation of the city had already begun, and the streets had turned into sites of mass executions.

They never made it to Serhiy’s parents’ home. russian soldiers fired around a hundred bullets at their car. Maksym was killed instantly by a headshot.

Anastasiya managed to jump out of the vehicle, but she was shot in the legs. Serhiy also ran out, trying to shield his friend.
“They just finished them off,” Anastasiya’s mother recalls.

The bodies could only be retrieved from the street that afternoon, once the occupiers had moved further into the city center. Serhiy’s parents buried their son and his friends right in their own yard.

🗣️ “Neighbors dug the grave. Valeriy (Serhiy’s father) washed the children because I couldn’t handle it. I wrote each child’s full name and date of birth and added: ‘Shot on March 4, 2022.’ If we had been killed or bombed, I didn’t want the children to remain unidentified,” Serhiy’s mother recalls.

Only after Bucha was liberated were the friends properly reburied. Forensics confirmed the brutality of that morning: Maksym had two gunshot wounds, Anastasiya was hit six times, and Serhiy nine times.

The IOC has banned not the Ukrainian athlete, but its own reputation. Future generations will recall this as a moment of shame.

He simply wanted to commemorate fellow athletes killed in war. There is nothing wrong with that under any rules or ethics.

The IOC intimidated, disrespected, and even lectured our athlete and other Ukrainians on how they should keep quiet about “one of 130 conflicts in the world”.

The IOC has also systemically failed to confront the greatest abuser of international sports and the Olympic Charter — Russia.

A country that started three invasions during the Olympic Truce in the past three decades, implemented the largest state-funded doping program, killed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches, and damaged 800 sports facilities in Ukraine.

These are Russians who must be banned, not the commemoration of their victims. None of them are “neutral”.

If the Olympic Creed says that “the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part”, then @iocmedia betrayed it completely by preventing @heraskevych from taking part and betrayed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches killed by Russia.

A massive Russian attack on Ukraine lasted for more than 12 hours. Savage strikes, a deliberate, targeted terror against ordinary cities – nearly 500 attack drones and over 40 missiles, including Kinzhal missiles. This morning, Russian-Iranian “shaheds” are again in our skies.

The main targets of the enemy strikes were Kyiv and the region, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions. In the capital, the building of the Cardiology Institute was damaged. As of now, four people have been reported killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. Across Ukraine, at least 40 people are known to have been injured, including children.

A bread-production facility, a tire manufacturing plant, private homes and apartment buildings, and other civilian infrastructure were damaged by the strikes. All necessary services are deployed on the ground.

This vile attack came virtually as the close of UN General Assembly week, and this is exactly how Russia declares its true position. Moscow wants to keep fighting and killing, and it deserves the toughest pressure from the world. The Kremlin benefits from continuing this war and terror as long as it earns revenue from energy and operates a shadow fleet. We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy. Everyone who wants peace must back President Trump’s efforts and halt any Russian imports. The time for decisive action is long overdue, and we count on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7, and the G20.
