We're back & still fighting for social work students to be paid for our placements. At @Columbia, students are required to work 1200 hours with no compensation to graduate (on top of coursework). We can do better! Let's make social work more accessible for everyone! 🤩
The End of Unpaid Internships Panel Discussion is March 13 from 6–7:30 PM ET. Unpaid internships negatively impact social work students, social workers, the social work profession, and beyond. The time for change is now!

"Love this year's focus on higher pay for social workers." #SWMonth2024
A "...way to work toward this would be for the #NASW to support paying social work students for their required practicum placements while they earn their degree."

We know practicum experiences aren’t always what we expect or hope for. Come vent about it with us! We’ll hold space to listen and support each other virtually 03/19 at 6PM ET on Zoom. Can’t wait to see you there!! #P4P#PaymentforPlacements
We at @p4p_cssw stand in solidarity with and support the reinstatement of the two graduate student TA’s at @UTAustin @TexasSteveHicks who were removed for offering mental health support to Palestinian students.
#Solidarity from @UTAustin @TexasSteveHicks #SHSSW#SocialWorkStudents demanding that the two grad student TAs who were wrongfully removed from their positions for sending a message of support to #PalestinianStudents be reinstated immediately!

Our caucus leadership: both Jewish and Palestinian have been personally impacted by the events in Gaza. A member of our leadership is balancing their unpaid placement along with the grief of having dead family members in Gaza.
Expecting society to continue function as normal during an ongoing loss of both Israel and Palestinian life, as we see video after video of someone’s last moments, is simply not sustainable. We must do better.
CAN PAID INTERNSHIPS SAVE SOCIAL WORK?
P4P Alumni Advisors @Daringly_Myself and @ElanaMetz share their thoughts in a blog for the 2023 #SSWWeek on the @SSWAlliance’s website. To see what they have to say, check out their post.

"Findings from this study underscore an urgent need to reconsider longstanding field practicum requirements, in order to better align expectations with the financial realities and life circumstances of contemporary students."

Unpaid internships disproportionately impact women and students of color and lead to fewer job offers, a lower starting salary, and less diversity in the workforce. Join us as we say #UnpaidIsUnfair and show your support at https://t.co/fY7EBy5W8L
This was an interesting report to skim through. Social Workers make on average $40-60k less than our nursing colleagues. Social Workers deserve so much better. #PayParityNow
