This “cost cutting” rampage has nothing to do with cutting excessive costs. If it were, it would be about taking on the Pentagon, subsidies for Big Oil, and tax cuts for the richest people among us (extending Trump‘s tax cut will cost over $4 trillion over the next 10 years).
This is not about cutting out costs. It is about cutting out the government.

I didn’t vote for Trump, obviously, but the American people did and he is the democratically elected President-elect. As such, once inaugurated he should hold and exercise the legal rights and powers of the Presidency.

Not one person, however, voted for Elon Musk. Yet his money affords him the power to smash through democratic norms in the most reckless and irresponsible ways - and he’s already doing it. Rule by oligarch is not what’s supposed to happen here.

Irony of ironies, I find myself hoping Donald Trump of all people will put him in his place.

American healthcare is a for-profit business. It is not in anyone's interest to cure anything. Physicians want people to have chronic illnesses so they can treat patients for life with pharmaceuticals. Big pharma pays doctors a lot of money when they prescribe drugs. In the UK and France, doctors work for the government and are given bonuses for making people HEALTHIER. For instance, physicians in the UK get bonuses for helping people quit smoking. I know what everyone is thinking...doctors in socialized medicine probably aren't as wealthy as American doctors. Not true. They are paid just as well.

If I wanted to profit off of healthcare I'd trash the ACA and privatize healthcare insurance, which would be bought and owned by US oligarchs. Then I'd nominate a deranged anti-vax sociopath as Health Secretary to make the public as sick as possible. The first Trump admin saw how profitable COVID-19 was. Trump was selling masks and ventilators to other countries and we had none. The GOP will take our insurance only to sell us their insurance while RFK Jr. makes us all sicker than we've ever been. There is serious profit in a population that needs unlimited medical help. Our healthcare system is being hijacked by billionaires for one reason only. MONEY. And many of us will die because of it.

The idea that a surgeon would feel he or she better hurry it up during *surgery* or the insurance company might not pay for the anesthesia, is a moral crime.
