A Christianity that is offended by someone advocating for the poor, the immigrant, the hungry, the sick, the marginalized, and the oppressed, is a Christianity that is offended by Jesus.
Therefore, it is no longer Christianity.
Have heard radio hosts speak about such "ingratitude". Jamaicans need have no gratitude (nor be beholden) to anyone they are paying to show up & do a job on their behalf. We acknowledge good work & may choose to reward it & we critique & demand accountablity for bad. Full stop.
On Thursday May 30, 2024, I received communications from The UWI that I have been promoted to the highest academic rank, that of a Professor. This is indeed seismic and a smashing of the academic glass ceiling by a person with a disability in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
Beware of any Christian movement that demands the government be an instrument of God’s wrath but never a source of God’s mercy, generosity, or compassion.
It’s humbling and a privilege to be supporting the #Massai people in the struggle for their #land#rights alongside amazing @gardencourtlaw sister Irena Sabic and @project_lawyers
It gets worse, as if it could. Class of 20. 100% did not vote because they “do not see how it would make a difference to their lives”, could not recognize Vale Royal, know what it is, why it is significant or where the heritage site is. We still have a lot of work to do.
@Petchary @mullings_clive@hcassamba I've been saying for years that we need modern fire tenders if we're to have 17 and 20-story buildings. Riser systems won't always work. Should planning authorities even approve these multi-story developments without the proper equipment in place?
Shamar Joseph hailing from a village with 350 population, was a security guard until last year. It takes min two days to reach there on a boat and until last five years, there was no mobile and internet connection till 2018. Logging was the only profession, and he had a near death experience when a tree fell and narrowly missed him. Then decided to move to another place. Was a labourer and then a security guard, working for 12 hours. At best could play cricket only on a Sunday.
Debuted in this series. Bought an arm guard only three days before the Test. Yet scores 36 against the highly experienced Australian attack in Australia. Also takes a five-wicket haul on Test debut, as West Indies bowl out Australia in AUS for the first time since 2009 (forget even winning).
Australia were 113/2 chasing 215. From this improbable position, Shamar Joseph in just his second Test took 7 wickets in a SINGLE SPELL. This is despite suffering from toe injury.
WI's first win vs AUS since 2003.
That too at Gabba where only India could win in last 35 years.
That too in a pink ball Test where Australia won 11 out of 11 before.
Also after losing many players to various franchise leagues.
WHAT A STORY!!!
Against all the odds.
This is a film!

A Christianity that believes it needs a political party, president, legislation, and a nation to ensure its survival is a Christianity that actually dethrones Jesus as savior of the nations and advances a belief that Jesus needs a nation to be his savior.
