Patrick Whelan’s uncle, Jean Claude Ntep, is also a former Cameroon 🇨🇲 national team (@FECABASKET) player who played for the Central African nation at the 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟮 @FIBA 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗻 (nka @AfroBasket).

He has since become a highly respected figure in coaching across several African countries.

In 2013, Ntep served as an assistant coach for 🇨🇬 @Congobasket during their FIBA AfroBasket campaign. Four years ago, he was the head coach of 🇨🇫 Bangui SC (@BanguiSportingC), guiding them through an inspiring @roadtoBAL run.

Today, Ntep leads Cameroon’s Onyx Basketball (@OnyxBasket), in the Elite Messieurs (Cameroun Basketball League).

Patrick’s connection to the Ntep family tree underscores the rich legacy of African basketball within his family—a legacy rooted in history and still thriving through him, his brother Jordan (@jordan_whelan), their uncle and several others.

Catherine Whelan (née Ntep) helped Cameroon 🇨🇲 beat Mozambique 🇲🇿, Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮, Angola 🇦🇴 en route to the bronze medal 🥉.
