The @pabj recently honored exemplary leaders in media and community impact, including my friend and colleague Bret Perkins. Congrats to all the 2025 honorees and kudos to PABJ for its advocacy and investments in our industry and communities.
SECRET’S OUT! PHILLY IS FINALLY HAVING A DIVERSE MEDIA CONVENTION!
For several years, I’ve dreamed for this moment to happen and now it’s finally here! Today, during PABJ’s Media Professionals Awards, I was finally able to reveal that my idea has become a reality – the EMERGING MEDIA DIVERSITY CONVENTION will be making its grand debut in Philadelphia this fall! 🔥
The first of its kind, the Emerging Media Diversity Convention, presented by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists and powered by Community College of Philadelphia, aims to train, mentor, and connect local diverse journalists and media professionals between the ages of 21-40 through a series of professional development workshops, networking experiences, and an in-depth job fair/career expo. Diverse journalists, communications/public relations professionals, content creators, media educators and students are encouraged to attend.
As the Executive Producer of this event, attendees can get ready for an all-inclusive experience that includes networking, practitioner/expert-led workshops, and an immersive media job fair/career expo that will be complemented with receptions and fellowships.
Sometimes in life, you can either demand others to step up and do what needs to be done – or you can stand up and get it done yourself. In 2025, we’re doing the latter over here and not waiting on anyone!
New rules, new lanes. Don’t beat us there, meet us there. ✨
More details are coming, along with the announcement of some stellar special guests! But until then, save the date for September 26-27th 2025! It’s going to be epic! 🖤❤️💛
Standing on business in the name of the free press, Black journalists, and our communities who deserve accountability and uncompromised media access. ✊🏾

SPEECHLESS: Last night was a respite for the ages. ✨
The 50th Anniversary Gala for the nation's first established association for Black journalists, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, was timely, elegant, and touching.
I'm still processing the power and magic of what we all experienced. All of my family, friends, and frat to show up like they did was touching. For those who showed up in spite of the news of this past week, who decided to get glammed up and picked themselves up to experience an evening of joy and empowerment -- thank you. For those who supported, but didn't feel ready to go back outside yet -- I appreciate you as well. ❤️
The theme of last night was recognizing how important it is to unify and embolden fearless, unapologetic voices now more than ever. It was also a beautiful tribute to mothers.
I feel more loved, appreciated, and encouraged than I have in a while. All of the words of affirmation for my work, and more importantly, the impact of PABJ, was beyond measure.
I'm more than ready to continue to serve with an invincible board, incredible sponsors, and impressive membership. 🖤❤️💛
We are @PABJ. We are all WE got! 🔥
It was an amazing evening at @pabj 50th anniversary gala 🏆 A celebration of the legacy of Black journalism in Philly 🖤 So many legends in one room! Congratulations @MrErnestOwens ✨
