For any advisors in my network, you will want to check out this amazing new tool we created at The Globe and Mail (@globeandmail) to help you grow your business!
.@GlobeAdvisor is excited to welcome reporter Rudy Mezzetta (@rudymezzetta) to the team. Rudy needs no introduction to the investment industry. He has covered the Canadian wealth management industry since 2005, with a focus on tax issues and trusts and estates planning. Before joining Globe Advisor, he worked as a senior reporter with Investment Executive and https://t.co/qhVlMHZJqL. Please help us in welcoming Rudy aboard. It has been a stunning year for the so-called “magnificent seven” stocks that have powered the U.S. stock market. Shares of Alphabet Inc., https://t.co/EeyRhCiYhm Inc., @Apple Inc., @Meta Platforms Inc., @Microsoft Corp., @nvidia Corp. and @Tesla Inc. have gained 101% so far this year, according to the Bloomberg Magnificent 7 Total Return Index. In contrast, the S&P 500 Total Return Index is up 21%. Although some technology-focused fund managers don’t expect these mega caps to rack up the monster returns of 2023, they are still making bullish bets – albeit to varying degrees – on most names. “I think you will see some moderation [in gains] next year,” says Peter Hofstra, senior vice-president and co-head of equities at Toronto-based CI Global Asset Management. “We hold six of the seven names and believe they will be a source of positive returns next year.”

Scott Terrio, manager of consumer insolvency at Hoyes, Michalos and Associates in Toronto, has seen car payments larger than a family’s monthly grocery bill.
“The average person is spending about a third of their income on cars by the time they add in insurance, maintenance and gas and that’s devastating for people’s finances,” he says.
Here are four crucial mistakes buyers may be making with their vehicle purchases.

Kevin Burkett, partner at Burkett & Co. Chartered Professional Accountants in Victoria, says the bump up in the lifetime capital gains exemption for qualified small business corporations is something he’s discussing continually with business owners who are in the process of succession planning. “You have more people coming to a point now at which they’re looking to transition their business,” he says. “They’re selling to their employees or a competitor. This is the most common tool someone will use to make the business transition tax efficient.”

.@JaninePurves, senior financial advisor with CI Assante Wealth Management (@BeWellAdvised) in Aurora, Ont., experienced the value of employer-sponsored health coverage first-hand when her mother broke her neck in a car accident decades ago. “The air ambulance was covered by [the provincial health plan], but the [land] ambulance wasn’t [and] we got a number of rehab bills that were not covered. The rental of the hospital bed [in her home] wasn’t covered,” she says. “All these things would have really added up if we didn’t have good insurance coverage.”
