@domdyer70@cns46z Was once on a call with Kwasi Kwarteng (remember him?!) when he was BEIS minister about offshore wind energy where he spoke about how he likes cycling. On one level very innocent, but of public discourse from high offices is often sadly quite low.
Mind-bending pic of a 115.5 metre-long blade, see people for scale. This is for a 15MW #offshorewind turbine with a 236m diameter rotor. 72 of these @Vestas machines will be installed off the Scottish coast in 2025.
@AaronBastani 2.2GW Solar awarded CfD's this year at less than £60/MWh (Current wholesale price: £600/MWh). This year's whitepaper targeted another c.28GW by 2030 ~2/3 of this commercial ground-mounted. Was looking good until govt started making up policy on the hoof. 🤦♂️
Liz Truss repeatedly told the BBC that energy bills are capped at £2,500. They are not.
This figure is based on what a “typical” household with average use will pay. It is *not* the maximum amount any household will pay.
A couple of novel concepts for floating #offshorewind installation and maintenance coming out of Hamburg conference this morn. Nice to see and plenty of room for more.
Love this. #offshorewind development always leads to many a #historical find. This one challenges assumptions about when the Romans were trading in the Southern North Sea.
Here's what a 15MW #offshorewind turbine nacelle looks like. From 2025, technicians will be looking after the first 60 of these nacelles, which will stand 160 metres above the waves 100KM off the coast of #Germany and produce power without subsidy🤯
@PickardJE Not sure listening to his response that he could even explain the concept of inflation. Just babbles incoherently about "robust supply chains" and "supply meets demand". A total charlatan and unfit for office.
This is the world's newest and largest wind farm installation vessel. For a sense of scale, try to immagine a person looking out at you from of one of those windows on the bridge. #offshorewind#renewables
Sad to see 'there is no climate emergency' trending. Reading the declaration (which has a missing full-stop after the first sentence) I am amazed by its central presumption that all policy about complex issues should be guided by scientific certainty. Good luck with that.
@darrengrimes Geopolitically UK is perfect for offshore wind. Government has spent two decades leaning into this. Industry, employs thousands of people, is driving inward investment, reducing billls and reducing emissions. At least research your tweets a tiny bit.
@darrengrimes By 'green agenda , do you mean 'decision to base our power supply on gas fired generation (because of successful greenwashing of gas by the oil and gas industry)'? I think you must, otherwise your comment makes no sense...
