My daughter charges five bucks for washing dishes at home, and she's been doing it for half a year already. My son said today that he wants to wash them too, but only for three bucks. He wants me to fire his sister.
I told my older daughter:
Do you know the power traditional communicators hold within communities?
They can:
✅ Educate
✅ Influence positive change
✅ Shape decision making
✅ Foster strong community relationships
These are all critical elements in the fight against FGM.

Every movement needs someone who lights the path.
For the #JALIFellowship2026, that’s @DrSatangNabaneh;our Patron & 2025 Women Have Wings Laureate.
The award committee noted “Her work inspires action by democratizing legal knowledge & cultivating an informed citizenry.”⚖️
For every generation, there were women who led, spoke, and acted - paving the way for those who came after.
At #FeministBantaba, we brought veterans, mid-career organisers, young & emerging feminists together — to learn, share, and build on the legacies that built this movement.
Across The Gambia, feminist organizations, activists, survivor-advocates, and young feminists continue to defend rights, challenge injustice, and advance gender equality.

The attempt to lift the FGM ban in The Gambia isn't an isolated incident, it’s part of a global anti-rights backlash.
We cannot let hard-won rights be dismantled. We must resist, protect gender equality, and stand with the frontlines.

Feminist solidarity isn’t just a feeling, it’s an action.
From everyday acts of care to loud advocacy, every effort counts in building a fairer world.

At a time when anti-rights backlash is intensifying, feminist solidarity is more critical than ever.
In The Gambia, feminists are actively resisting by:
✊ Building solidarity across movements
🗣️ Challenging misinformation
🤝 Supporting survivors
⚖️ Defending hard-won laws
There is nothing Pan‑African about cutting girls’ genitals. FGM is oppression, not liberation. Pan‑Africanism is rooted in equality, justice, and respect for women’s bodies and lives!
Over the weekend, with support from @Purposeful_org, we officially established our GBV Survivors Network.
This network creates a platform for 2️⃣0️⃣ GBV survivors to reclaim their voices, strengthen their agency, and lead change in their communities.

While the Government of The Gambia has removed import duty & VAT on sanitary pads to improve affordability, questions remain about whether these policies are truly reducing prices & improving access for girls and women.
Menstrual dignity must move from policy to reality.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey on access and affordability of sanitary pads in The Gambia. Your responses will help inform ongoing policy and parliamentary engagement.
